After Liverpool's game against Stoke on Sunday, many people have
been criticizing Luis Suarez for diving in the penalty area. However, very
little has been said about the striker suffering a bruising to the chest after
Robert Huth, the Stoke defender, intentionally stepped on Suarez.
Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers said, "As manager of
this football club I find it incredible that in nearly all the coverage about
Luis Suarez this weekend, very little focus has been placed on the fact that he
was actually the victim of a stamping incident within the first five minutes of
the game."

Suarez is not being treated the same as every other player. The
media and the FA are picking on Suarez because he is not English. For example, Suarez got an 8 match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra, whereas
John Terry, former English skipper, got only a 4 match ban for racial abuse
against Anton Ferdinand. "At this moment there seems to be one set of rules for Luis and another set for
everyone else," said Rodgers.
Diving and simulation need to be eradicated from the game,
but there are other important issues that are not getting enough coverage.
The media needs to stop picking on Suarez because it is
affecting the referees' opinions about Suarez. The officials tend to put Suarez's
reputation before him when making decisions in a game. That is why he did not
get a clear penalty in the game against Norwich last week.
Rodgers also said, "I believe some people need to
develop a sense of perspective and I also believe in this moment the
vilification of Luis is both wrong and unfair. I will continue to protect the
values, spirit and people of this great club and game while searching for a consistent
level of results in order to make progress on the field."

Racial tension has been a problem in almost every country. It seems like the UK has fallen behind the US and the rest of the world. It's disgusting that this is still taking place. We don't need anymore bigotry about someone because of the color of their skin. This needs to be fixed, but I fear the UK is taking steps backward in racial equality. We'll just have to see how all of this plays out.
ReplyDeleteI think it's completely unfair to treat a player differently based on where he's from. Maybe these people are just mad that foreigners are better than Americans at soccer. I can see their point, "they are invading our game," but seriously we need to respect a professional athlete that has trained his whole lofe to get to where he is at in the sport today.
